Meet the delightful town of Barnstable, bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the North and Nantucket Sound on the South.     Where is Barnstable?

    

    Located around 71 miles southwest of Boston, Barnstable is the county seat of Barnstable County on the South Shore of Massachusetts. The county, named after an England city, has a rich history dating back to the Pilgrims and the founding of Plymouth Colony in 1620, and it is known for its gorgeous and historical lighthouses, windmills, and early American architecture. Comprised of 60 square miles, it's the largest community on Cape Cod by both land area and population.

    

    A typical car ride from Barnstable to Boston can take more than 1 hour and a half, depending on traffic and which part of town you’re in. For those who prefer public transit, one option is the Peter Pan Bus Lines services to Boston, which will take around 2 hours or less, depending on the schedule. You can also use the Plymouth & Brockton Bus service. Another option is the MBTA Commuter Rail, which provides weekday service between Boston and Southern Rhode Island, with stops in various Massachusetts locations.

    The town of Barnstable, MA is served by the Barnstable Public Schools - a public school district located in Hyannis, MA. With a student-teacher ratio 11 to 1, the public school system is regarded very highly. This public school district is home to 9 total schools, sprinkled throughout the county. This school district is a one-to-one district where each student is assigned either an iPad or Chromebook depending on grade level.

    Barnstable Village

    Considered to be the most historic in town - this area boats may small attractions including the Barnstable Comedy Club, the Coast Guard Heritage Museum and the Olde Colonial Courthouse. Homes here date back to the mid-19th century.

    Centerville

    Nestled on the south side of Barnstable, you'll find a charming village called Centerville. It's a cozy residential haven, peppered with quaint little businesses and sprinkled with some truly beautiful beaches. This area is home to a local elementary school tucked into the heart of the village and a public library. The neighborhood Craigville is also located in Centerville, which is home to to the award-winning Four Seas Ice Cream shop. 

    Cotuit

    Don't overlook the serene charm of Cotuit, a seaside haven complete with several quaint beaches and tranquil walking tails. Nestled within the quiet residential neighborhood off Main Street, you'll find plentiful breathtaking waterfront views . The town's untouched beauty is magnified by its minimal commercialization, offering a solace retreat to the hustle and bustle of the cape. The Santuit Historic District is a sub-village within Cotuit featuring many preserved historical buildings and homes. 

    Hyannis

    The largest village in Barnstable, here is where all the action happens,. With a vibrant downtown area and many attractions, there's something for everyone. Check out, for example, the Hyannis Main Street for shops, galleries, restaurants, and entertainment venues, or take a tour inside the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum. The Cape Cod Melody Tent is also located in this village, which boasts incredible live Summer entertainment.

    Marstons Mills

    Home to scenic landscapes with cranberry bogs, lakes, and kettle ponds, this village has large residential areas. Take a tour of Cape Cod's only grass airport, the Cape Cod Airfield, offering bi-plane rides and a glimpse into aviation history. Marstons Mills is also home to Burgess Park, a 23 acre park that has a popular disc golf course.

    Osterville

    Osterville, an affluent oceanfront haven, holds a charm hidden in its prestigious waterfront residencies and secured gated communities. Nestled in the heart of Mid-Cape, Osterville is encircled by five stunning bays and the family-favorite Dowses Beach. Fishing and boating enthusiasts will find delight in the protected harbors and inlets, and two handy marinas in the town.

    

    Osterville's unique allure lies in its close connection to the water, boasting a slightly warmer temperature than the rest of the Cape. Residents revel in the breathtaking sights while boating through the inlets, swimming, and water-skiing in the bay. Despite being predominantly residential, Osterville's Main Street pulses with life through its quaint art galleries, restaurants, boutiques, and a small yet inviting business district.

    West Barnstable

    Known for its stunning coastal views and access to the 8,000-acre Great Mash, it’s a historical point with antique houses fully restored. Spend the day at Sandy Neck Barrier Beach, one of Cape Cod's most dramatic barrier beaches. West Barnstable is known for some of its popular attractions, which include:

    Spend a Day at the Beach

    Offering over 100 miles of white sand and water fun, the town has incredible and famous beaches such as Craigville Beach, Sandy Neck Beach where you’ll find the historical Sandy Neck Lighthouse landmark, and Kalmus Beach.

    Go Whale Watching

    One of the best attractions the city has is simply getting on a cruise departing from Barnstable Harbor to go whale watching at Stellwagen Bank.

    Visit the County Fair

    Every year in July with great anticipation, the Barnstable County Fair returns with great. This fair is packed with entertainment, rides, food, animals, agriculture and the world’s largest Demolition Derby. Dubbed Cape Cod's marquee summer event, we ourselves look forward to experiencing it each summer with our families in tow.
